Chapter 3: Troubleshooting

Testing your storefronts

After you set up your NetStores mall and storefronts, you should test them well.

--------------------------
--> Tools for debugging your NetStores mall and stores:

  1. Add "-s" as the first argument to any NetStores program that generates an HTML page. This prevents NetStores from sending the Content-type header of "text/html". As a result, your browser shows the HTML code instead of the page it normally produces. For example, use a URL of http://www.netstores.com/dwos-bin/gen-cat?-s+vcp to see the HTML page for the catalog-style example.
  2. Use the dwos-cat program to examine files in your /dwos directory tree remotely. For example, try a URL of http://www.netstores.com/dwos-bin/dwos-cat?data/ent/params.sh. You can set the ADMIP parameter in your ./dwos/malldata/params.sh file to block access to the dwos-cat program by unauthorized users as described in the following section.
  3. DEBUG: If you set this to anything other than zero (0) the temporary files NetStores creates while processing transactions are not deleted when processing is finished.
